Volunteer Leader Program

Volunteer leaders are individuals who are interested in greater responsibility at the TCS New York City Marathon and year-round engagement with New York Road Runners. Leaders help check in other volunteers, conduct orientations, and provide support in event operations by facilitating a positive volunteer experience. The ideal volunteer leader is the first to arrive and last to leave, feels compelled to motivate, engage, and empower volunteers in their area, and serves as an ambassador of the NYRR mission to inspire people through running.

Duties and Responsibilities

Volunteer leaders are ambassadors for New York Road Runners and the TCS New York City Marathon. Together with NYRR staff and vendors, Volunteer Leaders help manage many aspects of the race and ensure a smooth operation on race day. They help to ensure that every volunteer has a positive experience and that the needs of the organization, runners, sponsors, spectators, city agencies, and the community are met.

Volunteer Leaders:

  • Supervise, lead, guide, and assist volunteers at the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, including on site orientation and assistance with volunteer check‐in and cleanup.

  • Act as a liaison between NYRR and volunteers under your supervision.

  • Communicate with NYRR staff and group leaders (of groups working in your area) before and after the race.

  • Follow NYRR and TCS New York City Marathon guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Please note:

  • This opportunity is not +1 eligible.
